The story behind Two Jackasses
Two friends. Two bikes. One reason to build the rides we wanted.
John Gorman has crossed the Continental Divide, ridden to Deadhorse and Tuktoyaktuk, and competed in the BMW GS Trophy Qualifier. His calm pace and trail judgment come from years of big miles.
Anthony Molina grew up riding motocross in Colombia, has traveled through roughly 40 states on two wheels, and is a certified MSF Dirt Bike Coach. He scouts routes, builds the logistics, and makes sure the details are handled before the first bike rolls out.
They created Two Jackasses because a great motorcycle weekend should not require every rider to become a route planner, camp coordinator, and cook. The mission is simple: make it easier to show up, ride well, and leave with a crew you want to ride with again.

When and where is the ride?
October 1–4, 2026, based at Virginia Backcountry Cabins, 840 Lower Back Creek Rd, Monterey, Virginia. Thursday is arrival day, Friday and Saturday are ride days, and Sunday is breakfast and departure.
How much does it cost?
$670 for a single-occupancy cabin, $415 per rider for a double-occupancy cabin, or $260 for tent camping. Payment is due in full when you reserve.
What is included?
Your selected lodging or campsite for October 1–3, continental breakfast and dinner daily, a daily trail snack pack, pre-scouted routes, route coordination, ride leaders, and campfire nights with the group. Lunch and fuel are on you.
Do I have to stay in a cabin?
No. Choose a private single-occupancy cabin, a shared double-occupancy cabin, or bring your own tent and camping gear.
Do I need to find a roommate for double occupancy?
No. Virginia Backcountry Cabins handles cabin assignments, so you can reserve a double-occupancy spot without arranging a roommate first.
Is this suitable for a newer ADV rider?
The event welcomes all skill levels, but you should already be comfortable riding gravel and forest service roads. The group is supported, but this is not a learn-to-ride course.
What motorcycle do I need?
Bring a street-legal dual-sport or adventure motorcycle in solid mechanical condition. Knobby or 50/50 tires are recommended, along with fresh tires, chain, and brakes.
What routes will we ride?
The routes are being scouted with Virginia Backcountry Cabins. Final daily routes and GPX files will be shared only with confirmed riders once they are locked in.
How large is the group?
The event is capped at 25 riders across all three lodging options. Registration is first-come, first-served, and a tier closes when its available spots are booked.
Will other guests be on the property?
The property is available for signed-up riders during the event. Please follow all arrival and property guidance included in your rider details.
What happens if it rains?
We ride in normal rain. Bring proper rain gear and layers. We only cancel for severe conditions that make riding or travel genuinely unsafe.
What should I bring?
Bring complete riding gear, basic tools and a tire repair kit, rain gear and warm layers, an overnight bag, and cash or a card for lunch and fuel. Tent riders also need their tent and sleeping gear.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation notice is required more than 14 days before arrival. If you cancel 14 days or less before arrival, you are responsible for the full reservation cost.
Do I need an AMA membership?
Yes. Our events are insured through the American Motorcyclist Association, and an active AMA membership is required to ride. You can provide your number during registration or send it afterward.
Who should not sign up?
This is not a fit for an unlicensed motorcycle, a bike that is not ready for gravel and forest roads, or a rider seeking a race or technical single-track event. It is built for riders who value preparation, a welcoming group, and responsible adventure riding.
